Buccal Lipectomy – Face slimming
The buccal fat pad is a special pocket of fat located within the cheek. Excess buccal fat results in a very full, cheeky appearance – a “chipmunk look”. Buccal fat is a continuation of a deep fat pad on both sides of the face, located between the facial muscles. It is easily separated from the other structures of the face, and a perfect target for removal to help reduce lower face fullness. It is very distinct from the upper cheek/cheekbone fat pad, which is commonly enhanced to give the face a more defined appearance.
Buccal lipectomy or removal of fat from the face is a surgical procedure resulting in a slimming of the face in the area of the face and lower third of the face. By accessing the oral cavity, we remove fat pad and create a face with narrower contours. Most people have a fat layer in the cheeks beneath the cheekbones, which can cause a rounded face and is naturally reduced in age. The procedure transforms the facial shape from a square or boxy appearance to a more chiseled and attractive “V” or “heart” shape.
In people with a predisposition to “round” face, or in overweight people, the surgical removal of cheek fatty pads (buccal lipectomy) through the inside of the cheeks is an excellent way to get rid of this unwanted facial fat. It is a relatively fast and simple plastic surgery that takes place in local anesthesia and leaves no external scars.
